Lecturer in Clothing Design (Fashion)

The Department of Design is hiring a Lecturer in Clothing Design (Fashion). The main task is to teach core studies in fashion design and to supervise theses primarily on the bachelor level. In addition, the position includes planning, developing and renewing teaching and fashion design education together with other teaching staff. Duties may also include artistic activities or research, depending on the profile of the selected person. In addition, the position includes administrative tasks.

Your experience

We are seeking a visionary professional with design experience and extensive knowledge from the international fashion industry and pedagogical skills. The applicant is expected to have at least Master’s degree. Teaching experience in fashion and clothing design at the university level is considered an advantage. We appreciate artistic competence and international experience in artistic design work either at the level of products, collections or concepts. The ability to guide students in their design process, good communication and team working skills as well as good networks the field of fashion are expected.

Proficiency in Finnish and English is required for the candidate, proficiency in Swedish is considered an advantage.

What we offer

The title in the career system of lecturers of Aalto University can be either University Teacher, University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer based on the qualifications of the candidate. The successful candidate will be appointed for a fixed four-year term with an opportunity to permanent position. The position will be filled from 1 August 2021.

Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities and the salary is determined by the competence and experience required for the position. The applicants may also make salary requests.

The applicants will be reviewed based on the following areas: merits and competence in teaching; merits in artistic-professional and /or research; skills in collaboration; participation in the professional, design or academic community. Pedagogical studies are considered an advantage.
