DOCTORAL CANDIDATE IN GEODESY AND POSITIONING
The Geoinformatics research group (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-built-environment/geoinformatics) is seeking highly motivated and creative doctoral student who would undertake research in the area of Geodesy and Positioning. The candidate must have a high motivation for research and enjoy working in an international and cross-disciplinary team.
The position should start in late 2019 or early in 2020 and is intended for full-time work. The selected individual is expected to work for four years under supervision of Assistant Professor Maaria Nordman. The successful applicant will have possibility to cooperate with world-class researchers, as well as to attend scientific conferences and meetings. Moreover, the research group provides strong support and academic freedom, with possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration, both internationally and within Aalto University.
The Geoinformatics Research Group is now looking for a talented and motivated doctoral student to work on geodetic time series and techniques related to satellite navigation. The research carried out by the candidate will focus on applications and/or improvements of satellite positioning, for example the effect of new GNSS systems and frequencies or application of existing products to new fields.The research will be carried out in co-operation with the Finnish Geospatial research Institute (FGI). The research plan will be formulated together with the candidate, depending on his/her interests and expertise.
The successful candidates should preferably have a master's degree in geodesy, geophysics, land surveying or in a related area. Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required, as well as ability to work independently as part of a group in an international environment. Appreciated skills include familiarity with large data sets and/or models, understanding of geodetic challenges, good programming skills (e.g. Python, R, Matlab) as well as organization and data management skills.

Salary will be defined according to the salary system of Finnish Universities.
