DOCTORAL CANDIDATES in FUTURE REAL ESTATE MARKET ENVIRONMENT
The Real Estate Economics Research Group in the Department of Built Environment is seeking highly motivated and creative doctoral candidates who would undertake research in the area of Real estate economics, more specifically concentrating on the future development and phenomena of the real estate market. The broad research scope can include themes such as understanding the future development of supply and demand (e.g. formation of future preferences of different real estate market actors), forecasting the future impacts of different driving forces such as megatrends and weak signals as well as developing strategies and services aiming for a more sustainable real estate sector. The candidates must have a high motivation for research and enjoy working in an international and cross-disciplinary team.
The position should start in late autumn or at the end of the year 2019 and is intended for full-time work. The selected individuals will work with the research team under the supervision of Assistant Professor Saija Toivonen. The successful applicant will have possibility to cooperate with world-class researchers, as well as to attend scientific conferences and meetings. Moreover, the research team provides strong support and academic freedom, with possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration, both internationally and within Aalto University.
Requirements and expectations
The call is open for candidates with a wide range of backgrounds, such as Real Estate, Economics, Urban Geography, Construction, Architecture, Real Estate Law or Futures Studies. Applicants should have excellent academic qualifications, above average study results, a strong interest in doing research, very good English proficiency, ability to work in a team and willingness to learn. As part of your personal development, you will be encouraged to engage in teaching (formal training also provided), research activities, conferences and events.
The doctoral candidate position is contract-based; a two-year contract is granted first, followed by a possible extension for a one or two-year period depending on the achievements during the first contractual period and after that followed by a possible extension for another one-year period depending on the achievements during the second contractual period (1+1+1). In a maximum of four years, the doctoral student is required to 1) complete the doctoral dissertation based on peer-review publications (accepted and submitted), 2) finish relevant courses for 40 ECTS credits and 3) participate in teaching and in research proposal preparation. Salary and benefits
Aalto University applies the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be supported to participate in international conferences, and to develop knowledge and competencies for success in the future career.

5) Summary of the Master’s Thesis (max one A4 page) (if already published)
