Data Advisor to join Research Services

Are you passionate about open science and managing research data? Have you already experience or are eager to learn?

The massive quantities of data produced by scientific research creates new challenges in storage, curation and dissemination of research data. The field of research data management provides strategies and services to meet these new challenges and to produce findable, accessible, interoperable and reuseable research data as an end result.

We are looking for a data advisor to plan and coordinate Aalto University’s research data management activities. Research data management contributes to a cultural change at the university level The job of data advisor is to inspire the research community and improve the day-to-day data management practices of Aalto University’s researchers.

Your role and goals

Your main responsibilities include the development of research data management support services and service delivery. You raise awareness and advise researchers on FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) compliance and open science principles. You ensure that Aalto University’s researchers know how to fulfil the open science requirements set up by Aalto University, Ministry of Education and Culture and other funders.

Working together with the other members of the research data management network, you provide the Aalto community guidance in writing data management plans (DMPs) and in other RDM topics, such as storing, documenting and publishing of research data.

Your network and team

You work in the Open Science and ACRIS team in Research Services. You collaborate closely  with other teams offering services for research and communicate with researchers from different school of Aalto University. You are a matrix manager of the network of Data Agents. You coordinate engagement activities and prepare and provide training and workshop with Data Agents and other colleagues. You promote Aalto’s new Open Science and Research policy. You report to the Head of Open Science and Research, Anne Sunikka.

Your experience and ambitions

In order to succeed in this job, we appreciate:

  • Experience in a university environment and working with researchers.
  • Prior experience or interest in learning about research data management and open science.
  • Knowledge on GDPR and handling of personal and sensitive data.
  • Excellent information technology skills.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Project management skills are an advantage
  • Courage to collaborate, communicate and network with different stakeholders within and outside of Aalto University.
  • Experience and willingness to prepare training material and deliver training events.
  • Solution oriented, service-minded team player attitude combined with a dynamic style of working.
  • Ability to work independently, build communities and manage relationships across a large and diverse network.
  • Excellent written and verbal command of English and Finnish.
  • Master’s degree. Background in data-sciences or computational sciences is an advantage. PhD degree is an advantage.
