Beat the Blues! - events for Aalto international students

Themes for the events are:
Thu 22.9.22 at 16-18: Living in Finland
Join us and share your experiences of how has it been to live in Finland, so far? What has surprised you? What has brought you joy? Has something been difficult and if so, how have you overcome it? How have your encounters with Finns been? Have you made new friends? This autumn’s first Beat the Blues event (Thu 22.9, 16.00-18.00) offers a space and time for discussing and reflecting with other international students. We will start with a short introduction on how to make friends and connect in Finland, from study psychologist Henna Niiva, and continue with relaxed workshopping around these themes. Coffee&tea and some snacks provided! |
Thu 27.10.22 at 16-18: Culture shock? (Register in here)
From honeymoon to black hole and back! Adjusting to life in a new country is similar to other transitions, like moving to a new city or starting a new job, but with the added dimensions of adapting to cultural and language differences. Cultural adjustments can affect people living far from home in unexpected ways. Come and learn what can happen during your stay in Finland and how it may affect your studies especially at the beginning. And if you already have been in Finland for longer and feel that you have found a way to cope through and with the culture shock, come and share your valuable Top Tips for the newcomers! This autumn’s second Beat the Blues event will start with a short introduction (by Mari Dagnall) to culture shock and ways of coping with cultural adjustment, and continue with relaxed discussions and workshopping around these themes. Coffee & tea and some snacks provided! |
Thu 24.11.22 at 16-18: Beat the Winter-blues! (Register in here)
Finnish winter is coming - how to survive and enjoy the upcoming darkness with compassion? We will start this third event with a short introduction (by Saara Ahtola from HelsinkiMissio) to winter-blues and how to beat it. Then, we will continue with relaxed workshopping around these themes. New and old Beat the Blues-participant are all welcome, so no matter if you have been to these events before, or not, we would love to see you with us! Coffee&tea and some snacks provided! |
