The search service Aalto-Finna that is used by the Learning Centre's customers will change to the new search service Aalto-Primo in December 2020. At the same time, a new background system Alma will be introduced. Primo and Alma are modern systems that are widely used not only in Finland, but also in other parts of the world. The advantage of the new library system is its integration with other systems. This allows easier flow of information between systems, comprehensive search results and smooth use of the system.

Service break in December

The replacement of the system will cause a service break in December. The service break starts on Dec 14th. New search service Aalto-Primo is launched in the beginning of January. During the break, it is not possible to make new loans, make reservations or pay overdue fines. It is possible to borrow and return books by using special arrangements. Searching and using electronic materials, such as searching for and reading e-journals and e-books, is possible during the break.

There will be no due dates between the end of November and mid-January. The due dates will automatically shift to Monday 18.1. and so on.

What should a user of Aalto-Finna note?

If you have saved your own favorites or searches in Aalto-Finna, they will not be transferred to Primo. Therefore, favorites and searches should be saved from Aalto-Finna before the end of November.

Customer information and loans are automatically transferred to the new library system.

Please note that your current requests are not transferred to the new library system, unless you already received a pick-up notification. You can re-make your requests after the new system is implemented.

Archive's material will get their own Finna

The materials in the Aalto University archive are currently included in Aalto-Finna. In the future, the archive's materials can be found in the archive's separate Finna view, which will be published by the end of the year. The materials can still be found on the national Finna.fi service.

Inter-library loan service

For individual customers: Book ordering from abroad will be suspended beginning from 5th Dec 2020, because the expected arrival date for later loans would fall on Christmas closing time of the Learning Centre. All inter-library service is suspended 23rd Dec 2020 – 3rd Jan 2021. On 4th Jan 2021, we resume fulfilling all kinds of inter-library requests, along with handling any request queue accumulated during the service interruptions.

For libraries: Aalto University inter-library loan service for libraries is closed beginning from 10th Dec 2020, because we are changing our integrated library system from Voyager to Alma. All inter-library services for libraries will be suspended beginning from 23rd Dec 2020, and resume 7th Jan 2021.
