Prefabrication in Construction: A Systemic Approach to Impact and Implementation
Prefabrication is the widely used approach in construction and renovation projects worldwide. Prefabrication refers to production of construction parts in a factory before construction followed by on-site assembling. Though the prefabrication implementation has various benefits, a comprehensive analysis of potential impacts has been overlooked in previous studies. The main objective of this study is to analyze the impacts of prefabrication and identify ways to implement prefabrication using a systemic approach.
This study has introduced new method to assess monetary and non-monetary impacts of prefabrication from systemic perspective. It is seen that prefabrication implementation might have higher initial cost, but it saves cost in a long run. Thus, the proposed method holds significant potential in choosing between traditional and prefabrication methods.
Benefits and challenges associated with prefabrication implementation has been identified in the study. The benefits include shorter project duration, improved quality, and effective workflow. In contrast, challenges are restriction in design flexibility and difficulties installation in old buildings.
In summary, this study highlights how prefabrication can modernize the construction industry. By focusing on comprehensive impact assessment and providing real benefits, it paves the way for future improvements in construction practices. These findings are useful for developers, architects, and policymakers looking for more efficient and sustainable construction methods.
