OR afternoon 23.4.2019: How are OR and AI methods used in topical operations management problems?

This OR afternoon of Aalto Centre for Operations Research (ACOR) discusses the ongoing trend of using modern data-based analytics techniques together with operations research methods and models to turn descriptive data and forecasts based on it into decision recommendations especially in topical problems faced in operations management. Join us to learn and discuss about these topics and meet students, business representatives and researchers interested in the subjects!

About the OR afternoon

The objective of the event is to bring together industry stakeholders, researchers and students interested in how modern methods for data-based analytics are used in conjunction with operations research methods in turning descriptive data into decision recommendations, specifically in operations management.

The theme is discussed by presentations from 3 operations research / operations management professionals who have helped Finnish companies to improve their decision-making with modern methods of analytics and operations research.

The presentations focus on applications and discuss also modern tools used to implement the models. They are followed by a panel discussion and networking opportunities.

The event is free of charge and open to everybody interested in the topic. It is especially useful for researchers and students interested in applying methods of operations research, advanced analytics or operations management and for industry stakeholders who want to learn how these methods are or could be applied in practice.

For researchers and industry stakeholders, the event offers a great opportunity to learn about the state-of-the-art of the topic, to discuss research and development needs within these topical disciplines and to meet students. For students, the event also provides a possibility to learn how and to what kind of problems methods of OR and analytics are applied and to meet representatives of organizations, which utilize these methods in their everyday operations.

Where?

The event will take place in Otaniemi at Aalto Undergraduate Centre (Otakaari 1, Espoo; former TKK main building) in hall A2. This hall is located on the 2nd floor and it is accessed using entrance X.

In the Aalto campus map, the Undergraduate Centre is referred to by number 1. In the same map, entrance X is located next to number 66. It is advisable to come early and prepare getting a bit lost, as guiding inside the building is unclear or inexistent.

Katariina is a Professor of Practice at Aalto School of Business and the CEO of FlovV.io. She has vast experience in different roles in both the academia and in companies. PhD in operations and supply chain management.
