Frequently asked questions
An admission decision may only be rectified if Aalto University has made an error in the admission procedure and the error entitles the applicant to have the admission decision rectified.
Student admissions are based on admissions criteria which are decided by Aalto University.
Rectification requests will not be approved by the university if the rectification in question would go against the admissions criteria. If your application does not fulfil the eligibility criteria defined in the university’s admissions criteria, for example in the area of language proficiency, you cannot be admitted to Aalto University.
Applicants are admitted to Aalto University on the grounds of the application documents and information they have provided in accordance with the university’s instructions by the given deadlines. The responsibility for following the instructions and meeting the deadlines lies with the applicant.
If you have not followed the university’s instructions or if you have missed a deadline, this is not an error on Aalto University’s part.
In your rectification request, specify what decision you want to have rectified, how and on what grounds.
In your rectification request, you must demonstrate that the university has made an error.
If the rectification request is based on grounds other than an actual error made by the university, the university will not consider such grounds.
The list below contains examples of grounds that are irrelevant and therefore should not be used to justify a rectification request:
- ‘I am highly motivated to study at this master’s programme at Aalto University.’
- ‘I forgot to attach a document to my application or I added the wrong file.’
- ‘Although Aalto University did not accept the documents I presented as proof of my English proficiency, my English skills are very good.’
- ‘I do not understand the reason why my application was rejected.’
- ‘My rectification request contains additional information that was not included in my application.’
(E.g. an updated transcript of records, course content descriptions, additional information about the grading scale used by my university, or information on personal health or other circumstances that have affected the duration of the studies or grades.)
Aalto University will process all rectification requests in about 1–2 months. All rectification requests will be processed as swiftly as possible.
If your rectification request concerns academic evaluation, academic evaluators will re-evaluate your application and draw up a written statement on your rectification request. After they have given the written statement, your rectification request will be forwarded to the dean of the school in question. The dean will make an official decision on whether your rectification request will be approved or rejected.
After your rectification request has been processed, you will be informed of the result by email.
If you wish to have further information about the evaluation of your application at the study option, please contact the Aalto School of your study option after the admission results have been published.
The contact details for each study option will be published closer to the publication of the admission results.
Do not request rectification simply to get feedback or additional information on the admissions results.
