Who can use Aalto choice tank (”ACT” or “lab” below)?
ACT is a common resource and can be used by any researcher / research group from any Finnish higher education institution. You do not need to be from Aalto University to use ACT. Unaffiliated researchers will be charged a fee for using ACT.
What is the cost of using ACT?
We aim to keep the use of ACT free of charge, but if any direct costs are incurred, these will be passed on to the researcher. The funding for setting up the lab and paying the laboratory manager has been obtained from the OP Group Research Foundation, and the premises have been provided by Aalto University.
Direct costs, such as payments to participants or additional software are to be paid by the researcher.
NB: the participant pool is to be increased with every experiment, so we ask that especially in the early stages of ACT, each researcher takes part in increasing the participant pool (see page "Participants and Recruitment" for more details on how to do this).
Where is ACT?
ACT is located on the 3rd floor of the Väre building, which is the Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture building in Otaniemi, room number Q301. You can find ACT by asking the way from the School of Arts, Design and Architecture reception (Otaniementie 14) or School of Business reception (Ekonominaukio 1). It is a short walk to ACT from the Aalto University metro station. For more information, please see our find us and contact pages.
ACT is open when the School of Arts, Design and Architecture's Väre building is open (Mon-Thu: 7:45 - 21:00, Fri: 7:45 - 20:00, Sat: 9:00 - 17:00, Sun: closed). When not used for experiments, the lab also functions as a study space.
We advise that experiments are carried out between 9am and 5pm so that if needed, the lab manager can be contacted for help, and the experiment is more accessible to participants.
