Pack-Age

The renewed Pack-Age minor offers a unique and comprehensive approach to packaging design, consisting of two dynamic 6-week courses.
Aalto Pack-age student project

In the Design Insight course, our transdisciplinary team of students explore evidence-based design processes and uncovers user knowledge, trends, technology, and market opportunities. Armed with this research, they develop alternative packaging concepts that are both innovative and grounded in real-world insights.

In the Art of Packaging course, the most promising packaging concepts are selected and brought to life through a rigorous user-centered design process. Our students work closely with companies and print houses to create proof-of-concept prototypes that are both visually stunning and highly functional.

Students from different programmes work in transdisciplinary teams with real projects from the industry. Creative problem-solving is a key concept. The idea is to use students' background and prior knowledge as a resource for creative group work. The project work is supported by a wide range of theme lectures.

What can the company expect from taking part in this minor?

By collaborating with different programmes we are able to offer a more complete understanding and more innovative approach to packaging design including various perspectives to creativity, branding, prototyping, production, service design and user experience. Teachers from Aalto University, Lahti University of Applied Sciences and University of Helsinki partner up to provide insightful theme lectures and workshops for our students. We also collaborate with international specialists and guests from the industry.

What do the students receive?

Pack-Age is intended for students who are interested in learning packaging design in a comprehensive but fun way as a part of a transdisciplinary team working with a real design challenge. Pack-Age prepares students for a project-based working and cooperation of different fields. Students learn how to iteratively design, communicate, evaluate, test and justify their solutions for various stakeholders.

Participation in the Pack-Age has brought visibility to our company and products and expanded our professional network.
