Tenure Track Position in Functional Materials

Job description

We are seeking for an individual with demonstrated research excellence (or research potential in the case of recent PhD) in the broad area of functional materials. The field covers inorganic, metallic as well as hybrid materials. Candidates with active industrial collaboration and research scope with potential for technological applications are especially welcome to apply.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct outstanding experimental research. The call is primarily open on the Assistant Professor levels (in exceptional case Associate Professor level is also possible). We expect candidates to have completed their PhD 3-7 years ago.

Scientific Environment

The position will be located at the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science, in the Aalto University's School of Chemical Engineering. The Department excels in the research of materials and nanostructures in various fields such as carbon nanomaterials, micro- and nanodevice materials, atomic layer deposition, thermoelectricity, superhydrophobic and low friction surfaces, nanomechanics of semiconductors, and magnetic, polymeric and hybrid nanomaterials. We are looking for applicants who have:

  • A doctorate in chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology or a related field
  • Potential to carry out independent experimental research and attract research funding at the highest level
  • Passion and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level materials science
  • Ability to create high-level international contacts, both academic and industrial

The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research work, teaching and academic leadership and activity in scientific community.

Salary and employment
The salary is based on Aalto University salary system, but applicants can also provide their own requests. The contract includes occupational health benefits and Finland has a comprehensive social security system. The position will be located in the Aalto University campus in Otaniemi (in the Helsinki metropolitan area).
