Tenure track or Tenured Professor in Software Engineering
The vacancy at the Department of Computer Science is open to talented individuals who are interested in an excellent opportunity to pursue a successful scientific career. The position is targeted primarily at candidates for the Assistant Professor level. However, candidates with an outstanding record for Associate or Full Professor levels may be considered as well.
We are looking for a professor to complement our strong research in software engineering. The selected candidate is expected to establish independent research in the broad field of software engineering, including software quality and testing, large-scale cyber-physical systems and next generation software development principles and tools.
With strong research groups in empirical software engineering and large-scale distributed systems, Aalto University is emerging as a frontrunner in software engineering in Europe. Furthermore, as the foremost CS educator in Finland, the department is home to the majority of the best Finnish students as well as high volume of high-achieving international students entering the MSc and PhD programs. In total, the department hosts 44 professors with diverse interests, forming a fertile environment for cross-disciplinary collaborations. On a larger scale, as a technology-friendly, yet small country, Finland offers ample opportunities for low-overhead collaboration with industrial and government partners as well.
The applicants are expected to hold a doctoral degree in computer science or in a related discipline. Excellent research record in software engineering, evidenced by publications in relevant top venues, is expected. Suitable background and enthusiasm for teaching software engineering courses at bachelor’s and master’s level are essential. In addition, we value ability for and interest in engaging in research collaboration with industry.
A person at any level of the academic tenure track system is expected to perform world‐class research, to teach, supervise and otherwise advance both graduate and undergraduate education, to be an active member of the international scientific community, and to exhibit academic leadership. Career advances on the tenure track are based on scheduled performance assessments, which take into account the candidate’s merits in all these areas.
The position comes with competitive start up package. The salary for the position follows the salary scale in use at Aalto University, but applicants may also provide salary requirements.
