Job description


The School of Chemical Engineering is looking for a person with expertise of physical and chemical characterization of inorganic materials. The Staff Scientist position includes responsibility of development of selected characterization methods (including training and maintenance) such as low- and high-temperature magnetometers, low-temperature electrical measurements and Mössbauer spectroscopy. The position includes coordination of major infrastructure purchases and installations, participation into teaching and/or theses instruction, when applicable, and other tasks in the department infrastructure environment.


Candidates are expected to have a doctoral degree from a relevant field (experimental materials chemistry, physics, engineering or similar), and a good knowledge of English. The successful candidate has technical skills and passion for the area, a proven track-record in international-level research and ability to participate in research funding applications. Teaching experience is considered as an additional merit. Utilization and maintenance of the key infrastructure is carried out in good co-operation with academic and technical staff and thus good communication skills are essential.

Salary and contract terms

The Staff Scientist position will be initially filled fixed term, with a possibility to a permanent contract depending on the funding situation and performance evaluation. Salary is determined according to the salary system of Aalto University. The contract includes occupational health care and social security benefits. The planned starting date is in October 2017, but can also be negotiated.
