Studying Technology
The Aalto University School of Science and Technology was divided into four new Schools as from the 1st of January 2011. The new schools are School of Chemical Technology, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering, and School of Science. At the new schools, you can complete a Bachelor's degree in Science (Technology) and a Master's degree in Science (Technology, Architecture or Landscape Architecture). The schools also offer doctoral studies.
Bachelor-level studies are available in Finnish and Swedish. Master’s degrees and doctoral studies are offered also in English.
Bachelor's degree in Science (Technology)
Aalto University does not offer Bachelor’s programmes in English in the field of technology, which means that applicants for a Bachelor’s degree should have a solid knowledge of Finnish or Swedish language to be able to participate in lectures and exams on Bachelor’s level.
Applicants with Finnish nationality or applicants with an EB/IB/AICE degree are welcome to apply for Bachelor’s degree. Please note that a language certificate in Finnish is required.
Master's degree
Aalto University offers more than 20 master’s programs in English leading to the degree of MSc in Technology or Architecture. The scope of the degree covers 120 credits (ECTS), including a 30-credit thesis. There are seventeen Master’s degree programmes offered completely in English and leading to a Master of Science degree. International students that are interested in studying towards a Master's degree at the Aalto University are recommended to choose one among them.
Doctoral Education
The purpose of doctoral studies is for the student to acquire more profound scientific knowledge and skills in scientific research and their practical application than is provided by master’s degree studies. The key element in doctoral studies is to acquire the skills required in research and the application of research results. The doctoral education equips the student with skills in scientific research and expert tasks. The graduated doctor can work with a vide variety of tasks in international environments in all sectors of society.
