Student life

Finland has a rich history of student activities and involvement within universities and Aalto University is no exception.

By law, all universities must have one student union, and the student union representing students at Aalto is the Aalto Students’ Union (AUS). Every student automatically joins the student union of their respective school as payment of the annual fee is obligatory. Exchange students and other short-term students can also join the student union if their stay lasts longer than three 3 months, but membership is not obligatory for them. Yet it is recommended to join the AUS, as it provides a vast array of services, including housing and social activities.

There are also more subject-specific student organizations called guilds where students can get involved.  A complete list of guilds can be found here (LINK). There are also clubs for international students to support their transition in coming to study at Aalto. It is also possible to have a Finnish ‘tutor’, who can help you adjust and prepare for life in Finland. Tutors are also arranged by the student union.
