How do I apply for the scholarship?
In the eAGE-application form to the program, there are specific questions for non-EU/EEA citizens at the end of the application form. If you are eligible for the scholarship, the question about applying for the scholarship will appear in the form.
If you are eligible for the scholarship, this sentence will appear in the eAGE-application form:
"I'm eligible for the Aalto University scholarship" → I want to apply for the scholarship.
Basically you apply for all the categories of scholarships (A-C). The scholarship decision will indicate which category of scholarship you will be allocated.
I live in Finland and my residence permit carries the letter P? Am I eligible for the scholarship?
Following persons are not eligible for the scholarships (no tuition fees either): citizens who have permanent/continuous/EC residence permit for third country nationals with long term EC resident status in Finland (P, P-EY, A).
The nature of residence permit is indicated in the residence permit with a letter. A continuous residence permit bears the letter A and a temporary residence permit the letter B. A permanent residence permit bears the letter P and an EC residence permit for third-country nationals with long-term EC resident status bears the letters P-EY.
I will complete a university degree in Finland by the end of July 2012? Is tuition fee charged if I'm accepted to scholarship program?
No, there is no tuition fee for students having completed a university degree in Finland by the end of July 2012.
Who is a person equivalent to a European Union citizen?
Persons who are to be treated on an equal basis with the citizens of the EU member states, that is
-members of EU/ETA/Swiss citizens' families as defined in Directive 2004/38/EEC, art. 24 and 2.2, according to which 'family member' means (a) the spouse; (b) the partner with whom the Union citizen has contracted a registered partnership; (c) the direct descendants who are under the age of 21 or are dependants and those of the spouse or partner; (d) the dependent direct relatives in the ascending line and those of the spouse or partner;
The applicant must provide certification of being considered equivalent to a European Union Citizen.
How are the scholarships allocated?
In order of merit.
When will the scholarship decision be taken?
The admission result to the programme is released on 27 April 2012 at the earliest. The scholarship decision will also be given very soon after the selection decision to the programme.
What does scholarship cover and what not?
The student him/herself is responsible for covering for ex. following cost items:
- travels between the home and host universities
- residence permit
- accommodation
- living costs
- student union fees
- study materials (books etc), casing of thesis
The student who is accepted and enrolled in to Aalto scholarship -programme is entitled to following support and services:
- access to all programme courses and laboratory sessions
- assistance from the student services of the university in accordance with the regulations of the student services
- use of the library in accordance with the library regulations of the institution
- use of the information technology infrastructure in accordance with the specific regulations of the institutions
- educational support through any of the learning environments
- the right of attendance to extra curriculum activities organized within the programme
- insurance coverage
Temporary guest-applicants for fee-based programmes
If a student wishes to apply for a fee-based programme as a guest student, a tuition fee of 4000 euros per semester will be charged.
Double Degree Agreements for fee-based programmes
If the fee-based programme has a double degree agreement, the student pays tuition fees to his/hers home university, no tuition fee is charged at Aalto University.
Students applying from partner universities
Students applying from Aalto University’s partner universities are eligible for scholarships /required to pay tuition fees according the normal regulations. An exception is double degree students, who pay tuition fees only to their home university.
