Internationalization at home

Art and Design

Through increased student exchange during the past decade the Aalto University School of Art and Design is still the only institute of learning in the country with more students enrolling from foreign countries than students leaving for studies abroad.

The School of Art and Design has dozens of foreign professors, researchers and well known professionals. Most of them work at the Media Lab, where the MA programme is completely in English, and in the School of Design, particularly in industrial design and strategic design.

Alongside short and long-term mobility programmes, opportunities for international interaction are provided by various intensive courses, trainee schemes, seminars and study projects and international exhibitions etc. The degree student and faculty exchange is supported with the University’s own grants and through EU and other international grants and cultural exchange agreements.

Economics

To gain international experience the student can choose a degree program or a minor completely in English, or include individual English-taught courses in the BSc/MSc studies. Local students participate in classes with both degree seeking and exchange students coming from all over the world. Often there also are visiting professors from our partner universities among the teachers. In additionto the international classroom, an extensive offer of leisure activities brings together Finnish and international students.

Technology

The concept ‘Internationalization at Home' literally means internationalization in one's home country, and is promoted with the help of foreigners living in Finland and Finnish people who have either lived abroad or otherwise gained expertise in internationalization.
Internationalization at Home at Aalto University School of Science and Technology offers even those students who are unable to go abroad a chance to gain the international competence required of all university graduates in the increasingly international labour market of today.
