This flexible programme has been developed in close collaboration with leading consulting companies to help you develop the skills needed in diagnosing business problems and implementing new strategic initiatives in businesses ranging from multinationals to start-ups.

Programme overview: joint programme by two Aalto University schools

The Master’s Programme in Strategy is a joint programme offered by two Aalto University schools: the School of Business, and the School of Science.

The programme consists of several mandatory core modules and elective courses. The latter, taken from the combined and broad offering of the two schools, form the majority of the studies.

Through the university’s long-standing cooperation with companies and alumni, the courses offer you a blend of theoretical and conceptual knowledge through real-life examples and business insights.

In the mandatory core modules, you will learn

  • newest knowledge on strategy formulation and implementation, and
  • the required methodological skills.

In the elective courses, you can focus on topics such as

  • innovation and technology management
  • international business
  • business venturing
  • marketing management, and
  • managerial economics.

At the heart of the programme lie student-focused learning methods. Besides theory, you will learn about the day-to-day challenges of leading organizations through practical approaches, for example,

  • company excursions
  • case studies
  • group projects
  • reflection, and
  • interactive seminar sessions with innovative methods such as simulation games.

  • Analyse and extract insights from information
  • Craft and evaluate strategic initiatives

2.    Employ your understanding of people and leadership to

  • Lead and facilitate organizational changes
  • Understand and participate in strategy processes

3.    Leverage on your knowledge of organizations and capabilities to

  • Understand organizational design and structures
  • Plan and execute strategy in multinational firms

4.    Apply your understanding of business environment, competition and markets to

  • Analyse industries and business ecosystems
  • Perform competitor analysis and plan marketing strategy

Broad career prospects

Our programme is designed to help you develop into a business professional who can conceive and implement valuable changes in organizations. The programme provides you with the essential set of skills and competencies required to begin a career in, for example,

  • business development
  • business intelligence, or
  • consulting.

These entry-level jobs provide a natural platform for career development into general management or a domain specialist.

A large share of our alumni work in business consulting, including companies such as McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, Deloitte, and Accenture. Several of our graduates work in large multinationals, such as Kone, while yet others work in young growth companies both in Finland and abroad.

M.Sc. Strategy alumni often begin their careers in consulting or business development.
