PhD students
PhD students, as other degree students, are generally responsible for arranging their own accommodation. It is good to know that Aalto University does not own student dormitories which could accommodate PhD students. Main accommodation options are presented below.
Private rental market
For PhD students the private rental market is usually the best solution for obtaining accommodation since HOAS, The Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region, has more limited services and options for PhD students.
Although private rental market supply is wide it can take some time to find suitable accommodation. Private market housing is advertised online (various rental apartment forums), in newspapers or through agents. HOAS (The Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region)
HOAS provides housing also for PhD students. However the service is more limited because HOAS prioritizes full-time graduate students (studying towards a Master´s degree) with their housing services. Therefore the queuing time for PhD students can last several months. HOAS apartments available for post-graduates are unfurnished. PhD students can apply for a room in a shared apartment or family apartments. Studio apartments are not available.

Töölö Towers
Töölö Towers are designed to accommodate incoming international researchers and other guests from a week to a maximum of 6 months. Töölö Towers are centrally located in the city of Helsinki at Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu 23 A, close to the Töölö Campus of Aalto University. There is an easy access to the Otaniemi Campus via a near-by Kamppi Bus Terminal and to the Arabia Campus via tram.
Töölö Towers consist of 66 single rooms and 32 small apartments each with a kitchen. In addition there are also shared cooking facilities on every floor. All apartments and rooms are furnished. Price range is 280-490 € / week and 789-1445 € / month for one person. Breakfast and weekly cleaning including a change of bed linen are included in the price. Extra person fee including breakfast is 84€/week and 315€/month.
