For Students

Similar to the other European metropolises, the housing situation in the Helsinki region is challenging. Rental level is relatively high and finding affordable accommodation can be difficult especially in the beginning of the autumn term (August/September). The spring term is easier when it comes of finding accommodation. Therefore it is highly recommended that exchange students favour the spring term, if at all possible.

Aalto University itself does not own student dormitories. The main student housing providers for incoming Aalto University students are the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki Region, HOAS ( hoas.fi ) and Aalto University Student Union, AYY (ayy.fi).

MOAS, Mikkeli Student Housing Ltd. offers the student housing for those Aalto University students who study in the Mikkeli Campus.

Unfortunately the demand for student housing has been steadily increasing and HOAS and AYY do not have the capacity to accommodate all the students. Therefore students should also prepare themselves to seek for accommodation from the private rental sectors.

The Helsinki Metropolitan area that consists of the cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Kauniainen luckily offers good public transportation services so accommodation options can easily be sought from this whole area.
