Assessment results

The results of the assessment provide us with valuable information to be used for the strategic planning of research at Aalto University as well as for the development of its research practices. The results indicate that research at Aalto University is of high international level: many units where assessed as already having world-class research, while several others were assessed as having excellent opportunities for rising to the top of international research in their field. The research assessment exercise identified the research areas of computation and modeling, materials research, design, as well as ICT and media as the strong points of Aalto.

Societal impact was identified as a particular strength for the Aalto University research. Active cooperation with companies is a special characteristic of Aalto University research and a particular competitive asset in the international market.

Aalto University rewarded the best performed units with postdoctoral research posts and extra funding for research. The rewarded units are:
