Multidisciplinary Aalto

Scientific breakthroughs, inventions and innovations are often born as a result of multidisciplinary research collaboration, as one field of science explores the boundaries of another. Solving the great challenges of today, such as climate change, requires the combination of different areas of expertise.

Aalto University wants to realize the full potential of its multidisciplinary and -artistic nature. Research at Aalto not only combines the various areas of specialization found within the University but also collaborates actively with the surrounding society – with companies, bodies governed by public law and industries. The University supports multidisciplinary research by offering opportunities for spontaneous and dynamic collaboration between experts of different fields. The new research environments may eventually develop into more comprehensive research programs or units to meet the needs of the multidisciplinary research efforts. The multidisciplinary expertise of the University also reflected in the wide range of courses offered by it.
