For prospective students
Aalto University- six leading Schools in one
Our belief is that education must offer opportunities, rather than ready-made solutions. Combining disciplines allows our students to influence their own study programmes based on their interests, career objectives, and strengths.
The name Aalto University symbolizes change and is a tribute to the courageous, overarching renaissance man Alvar Aalto, who distinguished himself in not only the fields of technology and economics, but also in art and design. Aalto himself is an alumnus of one of our Schools as well as being the creator of the Otaniemi Campus street plan, its main building, and other buildings on the Otaniemi Campus.
The name has been chosen to reflect the concept, spirit, values and goals of the new university.
Alvar Aalto's work is characterized by an open-minded, creative approach to research. He tackled problems in depth, avoided settling for the ordinary, and was able to find innovative solutions - by doing things differently. Aalto University aims to break down barriers between scientific and artistic disciplines in a hope to also do things differently. The most recent creativity and innovation theories support the idea that interaction between different kinds of people facilitates the birth of new ideas.
If you are interested in an environment that is student-centred and enthusiastic, where critical thinking and an open mind are essential, then considering Aalto University is your first step to achieving that! We strive to create an environment where basic Finnish values are promoted: equality, ethicality, and transparency.
Studying in English is primarily available at the Master's and Doctoral level but you can also find a few Bachelor-level programmes.
