Magnus Diesen appointed as an expert in the Department of Forest Products Technology
Magnus Diesen has been appointed as an expert for a period of three years. His responsibilities include lecturing on economics of the pulp and paper industry as well as the long term development of education within this field. Furthermore, Mr. Diesen participates in instructing Master’s Thesis when needed.
Magnus Diesen is a graduate from the Department of Forest Products Technology (1970) with a Paper Technology major. Mr. Diesen’s career in the forest products industry has been international. After graduating from TKK, he worked in the United States for Madden Machine Co. from 1970 to 1974. After that Mr. Diesen worked for UPM in Finland for four years and also in Iran before returning to Finland to work for Jaakko Pöyry. For Stora Enso Mr. Diesen worked from 1988 to 2006. In the years 2000-2006 he was Executive Vice President (Corporate Strategy, Investments and Business Planning) as well as a member of the Management Group based in Stora Enso’s London office. His responsibilities included investment planning as well as planning of mergers and acquisitions including their execution based on the company strategy.
Magnus Diesen devoted his time from fall 2006 to spring 2007 to write a book titled Economics of the Pulp and Paper Industry (Fapet Oy) which was published in June 2007. This book is the bases for a four credit course Puu-0.5000, Economics of the Pulp and Paper Industry. The course offers a global view on pulp and paper industry covering information of forest industry raw material resources, markets, as well as analyses on industry structure, profitability and competitiveness. This course, lectured by Magnus Diesen, takes place during the second period. Language is English.
