Safety cooker hood developed in the spirit of Aalto University

08.01.2009

Design Factory and Safera Oy worked together to develop the world’s first safety cooker hood to ensure the safety of users.

The safety cooker hood effectively prevents hob fires. The prevention of hob fires is becoming even more important as over 400 stovetop fires occur in Finland per year and the figure is bound to increase as the population ages. The safety cooker hood is the only cooker hood solution that also allows for a discount on insurance prices.

The stylishly designed safety cooker hood has been chosen as the cooker hood solution in major national projects, such as the training facilities of the Martha Organization (“Marttaliitto”) and the ecological housing facilities in the Eko Elias project of TTS (Work Efficiency Institute). The safety cooker hood has also attracted attention from international cooker hood manufacturers and in 2009 the product will be launched in Germany in the largest domestic appliances exhibition in Europe.

The outcome of multi-disciplinary product development

Safera has strong faith in the philosophy of Design Factory, which stresses the joy of activity, constant learning and persistent working. Safera also sponsors on-going research and development work within the Product Development Project course titled “Guardian – an intelligent and fireproof home”. The core team was formed years ago in another multi-disciplinary Product Development Project course between Helsinki University of Technology, University of Art and Design Helsinki and Helsinki School of Economics. The founders and current partners see themselves as model examples of what students in the upcoming Aalto University can achieve. The key elements to success in developing the innovation have been an understanding of a need- and customer-based approach, the multi-disciplinary background of the developers and versatile networking.
