Negotiations on the Operational Reorganisation of the Lahti Center Commenced at Aalto University

Aalto University will begin co-operation negotiations on the operational reorganisation and any resulting impact on the staff of the Lahti Center, which is part of the School of Engineering.
The Lahti Center employs 23 people, 12 of whom are working in the environmental technology research group.
In its report dated 30 September 2011, Aalto University's internal working group recommended changes to environmental engineering activities, including those concerning the Lahti Center, and recommended that the university's operations model in the Lahti Center be reformed.
In preparation for the relevant decision-making work, Aalto University will begin employee co-operation negotiations. The statutory negotiations will concern all 23 people working at the Lahti Center. Decisions regarding the restructuring of operations and the related implications for personnel will be made once the negotiations between the parties have been concluded. According to the preliminary estimate, the possible need for staff reduction involves 10 people at most. The goal is to minimize the negative effects.
Aalto University is engaged in environmental research and education at all campuses in the metropolitan area and at the Lahti Center. Otaniemi is home to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Aalto University has been conducting discussions with the Lahti University Consortium and the City of Lahti as to what type of operation would best serve the needs of the Lahti region as well as those of Aalto University. In Lahti, Aalto University also has activities in the field of design the re-alignment does not apply to this area.
