31.03.2010
A joint publication Bit Bang - Rays to the Future was recently published as an outcome of the Aalto University post graduate course about the long-term impacts of information and communications technologies on life-styles, society and business.
The book analyzes interesting technology trends until 2025 and their impacts on society, for example, the future of telecommunications, computing and printed electronics, and from the impact side, intelligent machines, the changing role of industrial regions and globalization.
Students for the 2008-2009 Bit Bang - Rays to the Future post graduate course were selected from all departments of Aalto University. The course was an experiment on how Aalto University can add value at the level of doctoral studies. Bit Bang is organized by the MIDE research program and lead by Professor Yrjö Neuvo.
– The rich multidisciplinary, multinational interactions and the amount of energy the students put on this very demanding course are clear proofs that the Aalto university really adds value also at the doctoral education level, Neuvo sums up the positive synergy the group created last year.
Based on positive feedback received, the course was continued in 2009-2010. The fall semester of Bit Bang 2 focused on the elements of innovation including creativity, different types of innovation and innovation management. In the spring term, which is now underway, the focus is energy as a global challenge. The outcome will again be a book covering open innovation, flourishing innovation climates, ICT extension to developing rural areas, user-driven innovation, eco cities, changing lifestyles, sustainable metropolitan areas and smart grids.
