Aalto University mechanical engineering alumnus receives Marcus Wallenberg Prize
23.04.2012 Aalto University mechanical engineering alumnus Mika Viljanmaa, M.Sc., has been awarded the prestigious 2012 Marcus Wallenberg Prize for his work on metal belt calendering in paper and board making. The prize sum is SEK 2 million which is 227 000 euro. Viljanmaa will receive the prize at a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden on October 1, 2012.
ELO wipes the board at Tampere’s National Competition
12.03.2012 The National Competition at Tampere’s film festival was a celebration for the Department of Motion Picture, Television and Production Design’s films. The films “Burden of My Heart”, “Hypermarket Nation”, “Korsoteoria” (So It Goes), “Äidit” (Mothers) and “Pyramidi” (Pyramid) enjoyed great success at the film festival that finished at the last weekend.
Achievements in Finnish design brought Estlander medals to Aalto University professors
06.02.2012 The Estlander Silver Medals were awarded to Aalto University Professors Kalevi Ekman, Raimo Nikkanen and Markku Salimäki in recognition of significant achievement on behalf of Finnish design. The award ceremony took place at the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 gala in Lahti on 2 February 2012. The gala was one of the WDC year’s signature events.

Virtual acoustics researcher Tapio Lokki awarded for the social impact of his work
28.10.2011 Adjunct Professor, Academy Research Fellow Tapio Lokki has been awarded the Academy of Finland Award for social impact. Lokki and his research team at the Department of Media Technology, Aalto University School of Science, are working to develop physically-based room acoustic modelling methods that can be used to create virtual auditory environments. Their research will help us to better understand and predict the acoustics of acoustically demanding spaces, such as concert halls.
