The results of students' product development projects made public in Design Factory

26.04.2010 A gala event for the Product Development Project, in which the results of 13 multidisciplinary student projects were made public, was held in Design Factory on 23.4. The prototypes created in the projects were developed in collaboration with businesses and international partners.

Communicating knowledge at the crossroads of art, technology and business

28.04.2010 In spring 2009 Aalto University launched a call for new ideas for further development of teaching and learning in the new university. Altogether 180 proposals were submitted, of which 12 were selected to best meet the criteria set for the new "Aalto Courses": innovative course content, effective teaching practices, multidisciplinary co-operation, societal impact, and multi-cultural interaction.

Over 15,400 applicants to Aalto University Schools

29.04.2010 This year a record number of applicants sought admission to Aalto University's three schools, totalling over 15,400. 10,738 applicants applied in the joint application period for Aalto University Schools, whilst 4,668 applied directly for Master's level studies.

New trends from fashion design students

27.05.2010 The new range of creations from students in the Fashion and Clothing Design programme at Aalto University School of Art and Design were unveiled on Wednesday 26 May with three fashion shows that attracted a full house of fashion, art and trend enthusiasts to Media Centre Lume.

Aalto University accepted 1796 new students

09.07.2010 In the application period to universities in the spring 2010, 1796 students were accepted to Aalto University. Of the new students 436 will begin their studies in the Aalto University School of Economics, 213 in the School of Art and Design, and 1237 in the School of Science and Technology.

Satu Maaranen wins Designers' Nest Award

18.08.2010 Satu Maaranen, who studies Fashion Design at the Aalto University School of Art and Design, won the Nordic Designers’ Nest Award with her women’s wear collection. According to the international panel, Maaranen’s strengths included the strong concept behind the collection and her Scandinavian touch.

Design students welcome habitare visitors home

06.09.2010 Design students of Aalto University School of Art and Design created their own vision of the home of the future at Habitare fair. The Homework project was created using high-quality materials and comprises space, furniture, textiles and objects. Homework also presents the students’ perspective on what is important in a home.

New Students’ Semester Kicks Off with Shared Events

08.09.2010 Aalto University’s new students kicked off their first academic year with the events of an orientation week organised in late August/early September. The climax of the week was the Aalto First Experience event, celebrated on the university’s three campuses on Friday 3 September.

Students of design heading to Hirameki Design x Finland event inTokyo

28.10.2010 At the end of October, Aalto University students of design will head for the Hirameki Design x Finland event and exhibition at Tokyo Designers’ Week, which will showcase Finnish design in Japan more extensively than ever before. For this professional event, the design students have created the ‘40 hours’ exhibition as well as the Näytös 10 fashion show.

Students at Aalto University are building Finland’s first satellite

08.11.2010 Aalto-1 is expected to be launched into space in 2013 and the plan is that most of the design, construction and testing of the device will be carried out by students.

Easily recyclable laptop developed on product development course

19.11.2010 Students from Aalto University have developed a recyclable laptop computer together with students from Stanford University on a joint ME310 product development course. The project team included students of mechanical engineering, business and industrial design. The team's corporate partner was Autodesk, a manufacturer of industrial graphic design software.

Aalto University School of Economics placed 22nd in Business Schools rankings

07.12.2010 The European Business Schools ranking published in the Financial Times on 6 December placed Aalto University School of Economics 22nd, out of altogether 75 European business schools evaluated for the ranking. Top of the list was HEC Paris and second place was taken by London Business School. Aalto University School of Economics was the only Finnish business school to be listed.
