Renovation of Otakaari 1 begun 1 October

04.10.2011 During the second phase of renovation the Y and M wings will be repaired. Lecture halls located in the Y wing will be in University’s use for the majority of the renovation project. The M wing will be completed in October 2012 and the Y wing in March 2013. The D and E lecture halls will be repaired during the summer of 2012. The exact time for repair work on other lecture halls will be specified at a later time.

EU grant for a basic component of the quantum computer

06.10.2011 Dr. Mikko Möttönen, 31, has been granted substantial funding from the European Research Council (ERC) within its call for Starting Grants. Dr. Möttönen was granted a funding of EUR 1.5 million for five years.

Department of Design in Co-Core Seoul

Ingmar Björkman appointed as Dean of Aalto University School of Economics

11.10.2011 At its meeting on the 7th October 2011, the Board of Aalto University appointed Professor Ingmar Björkman, PhD (born 1959) as Dean of the Aalto University School of Economics for five years starting on 1 January 2012. Björkman is to follow Jyrki Wallenius who was appointed Dean of the Aalto University School of Economics for the year 2011.

Aalto University Magazine – an innovative university publication

19.10.2011 Aalto University will begin publishing Aalto University Magazine, a new magazine for the university’s interest groups. The first issue will come out at the turn of October and November and cover risks and entrepreneurship. The magazine, mainly aimed at alumni and partners, presents Aalto University’s important role in building a better world and a stronger Finland. The magazine also discusses the multidisciplinary nature of the university community, which entails encounters between technology, art and economics.

20.10.2011 Ilmasto-opas.fi, a new website bringing together climate information under one address, was opened today. The website provides information about the Finnish climate and climate change, analysed down to individual regions. The Swedish and English versions of the site will be launched later this year.
