The Luukku zero-energy house open to the public
14.05.2010 / 09:00 - 12:00
Over the last two years preparations have been underway at Aalto University for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2010, which we will be participating in from 19.–27.06.2010. Luukku, the university's entry in the building competition is just waiting the finishing touches to be applied and will be on its way to Madrid at the end of May.
The final touch to the Finnish entry will be its interior, designed and implemented by students of Aalto University School of Art and Design.
The Luukku house will be on display during a media day held at Otaniemi between 9am and midday on 14.05.10. Housing Minister Jan Vapaavuori, who is the project's patron, will be present at the event. The team is principally funded by the Energy programme of Sitra, the Finnish Innovation fund.
The Solar Decathlon Europe 2010 is an energy-efficient construction competition in 10 categories, with a total of 20 university teams from around the world presenting the zero-energy houses they have designed and built. Buildings using solar energy will be collected together in a display area in front of the Royal Palace.
The Universities will compete in different areas of the design and construction of zero-energy buildings. Competition categories include architecture, comfort conditions, innovation in construction, energy consumption measured during the competition and sustainability. The aim of the Decathlon is to create competitive concepts which can be productized for the construction markets of the future.
The Luukku house will represent the best in Finnish expertise, innovation and products in the Solar Decathlon Europe 2010 competition.
