Honorary Seminar Afternoon for Aalto Professor Risto Nieminen

Welcome to a seminar organized in honor of the first Aalto Professor Risto Nieminen on Friday, August 27, 2010 at Dipoli in Otaniemi.
Professor Nieminen was the first to be awarded the status of Aalto Professor at the opening ceremony of Aalto University in January 2010. This is a position awarded to leading figures in faculties that achieve internationally prominent positions in their respective fields.
Professor Nieminen is specialized in computational condensed-matter and materials physics, including nanosciences and nanotechnology. He is also the head of COMP Center of Excellence in Computional Nanoscience at the Department of Applied Physics.
At the seminar, top experts present the best bits of Aalto University’s experimental and theoretical nanoscience research. The presentations highlight achievements and possibilities within nanoscience from a more popular perspective and give insight into the future of nanophysics.
The event is opened by Aalto University’s president Tuula Teeri. In addition to Risto Nieminen’s lecture, the seminar program consists of presentations by a collection of top scientists working close to COMP; Prof. Adam Foster, Prof. Kari Laasonen, Prof. Päivi Törmä, Prof. Jukka Pekola, Prof. Sebastiaan van Dijken, Dr. Peter Liljeroth, and Dr. Filip Tuomisto.
