Location: Auditorium F239, Otakaari 3, 02150, Espoo, FI

M. Sc. (Tech.) Taru Tukiainen will defend the dissertation “Metabolomics meets genetics – from an NMR metabolomics platform to the genetic architecture of serum metabolites” on March 2nd, 2012. In the dissertation metabolomics technology was developed further now allowing for the efficient measurement and quantification of over a hundred metabolites from a single serum sample. Additionally, the dissertation presents one of the first applications of the combined use of metabolomics and genetic data on population level. The results provide valuable and new biological insight into the genetic control of human metabolism in health and disease.

Opponent: Professor Thomas Illig, Hannover Medical School, Germany

Supervising Professor: Professor Kimmo Kaski, Aalto University School of Science, Department of Biomedical Engineering and Computational Science
