Exchange students

Main student housing providers for our incoming exchange students are the Foundation for Student Housing in the Helsinki region, HOAS (hoas.fi) and Aalto University Student Union, AYY (ayy.fi). The apartments are located in Espoo and Helsinki, all with public transportation connections to the university campuses.

Aalto University has negotiated a certain number of furnished apartments for its exchange students. Due to the limited number of these apartments Aalto University, HOAS or AYY unfortunately cannot guarantee housing for all exchange students. The earlier you apply the better chance of getting housing you have.

The spring term is always easier when it comes of finding accommodation. Therefore it is highly recommended that exchange students favor the spring term, if at all possible.

Rental level of HOAS and AYY varies between 250-440 € month. Rooms are furnished and mostly in shared apartments. Kindly note that there is a limited number of the least expensive rooms, so we unfortunately cannot guarantee that rate for everyone. The monthly rent usually includes broadband internet connection, electricity and water.

Instructions for applying exchange student housing vary according to the Schools of Aalto. You are given the instructions how and where to apply, when receiving the acceptance letter.

Because there is not enough rooms to accommodate all incoming exchange students you should also prepare yourself  to look for the rental room or apartment from the private rental market. These accommodation options can be found in the following sections

Short term accomodation

No flat before arriving in Finland?

If you don't have an apartment before arriving in Finland, be sure to make a hostel reservation early enough! Hostels are often fully booked especially in early September.

You can search for other hostels at http://www.hostellit.fi/?lang=EN. Or you can also try couch-surfing, a volunteer-based network for accommodation, http://www.couchsurfing.org/

Make sure you have a place to stay for your first nights in Finland!
