President of Aalto University
Tuula Teeri is the first President of Aalto University since 1 April 2009, with her second 5-year term starting 1 April 2014. During her scientific career, she was a pioneer of forest industrial biotechnology and the development of biomimetic materials.
Tuula Teeri has held research and leadership positions in different universities and research institutes. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, Technology Academy Finland, and the Swedish Academy of Technology in Finland. She is a co-founder of SweTree Technologies.

Biography in brief
Professor Tuula Teeri, Ph.D., was appointed the first President of Aalto University on April 1, 2009. Her second 5-year term as the President started in April 2014.
Under the leadership of President Tuula Teeri, Aalto University has invested strongly in interdisciplinary research and educational programs and successfully implemented the tenure track career system for professors. Entrepreneurial education is now offered for all students, and the innovation ecosystem around the university has grown into a major hub for student-driven entrepreneurship.
President Teeri is currently a board member of the Technology Academy Finland, Marcus Wallenberg Prize Foundation, Science/Business Europe network, the Finnish Business and Policy Forum, as well as the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy. She is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, and the Swedish Academy of Technology in Finland as well as a cofounder of SweTree Technologies.
Before assuming the presidency of Aalto University, Tuula Teeri was the Deputy President of the Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, in Stockholm (2008–2009). She was appointed Professor of Wood Biotechnology at KTH in 1996. She served as the Deputy Dean of the School of Biotechnology (2005–2007) and member of the KTH Faculty Board (2003–2007). In Sweden, President Teeri has previously been board member of the Institute of Surface Chemistry (2001–2004), the Institute for Future Studies, (2003–2006), the Board for Natural Sciences and Technology of the Swedish Research Council (2004–2006), and the Foundation for Strategic Research (2004–2007).
President Teeri earned her M.Sc. in Molecular Genetics (1982) and a Ph.D. (1987) from the University of Helsinki, while carrying out her dissertation research at VTT Technical Research Center of Finland. She held various research and leadership positions at VTT between 1987 and 1998 and was Visiting Scientist at Genentech Inc. in California during 1992–1993. Her research focused on the enzyme discovery and protein engineering of cellulose degradation and plant cell wall biosynthesis, with the long-term aim of developing processes for biofuel applications and new biomimetic materials.
President Teeri has published over 180 scientific papers and reviews as well as popular scientific and science policy articles. A citation analysis of her publications in the ISI Web of Science gives her an H-index of 52, while Google Scholar gives her an H-index of 61 (22 Oct 2015).
