Aalto University Group owns several business enterprises. Aalto University Properties Ltd is the largest of these.
The foundation and its subsidiaries comprise the Aalto University Group. In accordance with Section 63 of the Universities Act, the leadership of the university group consists of the Aalto University Board and the president of the university. The university group management is responsible for directing the university group and for organising the supervision of the university group while the operative management of each individual subsidiary is responsible for the day-to-day activities.
The Aalto University Foundation also has 20–50% shareholdings in five affiliated companies.
Aalto University Properties Ltd
Aalto University Properties Ltd was established in conjunction with the university reform in 2009, and it is the biggest company of Aalto University Group. In August 2015, the Aalto University Foundation acquired shares previously owned by Senate Properties (1/3) and holds now 100% of the shares in the company.
Aalto University Properties Ltd owns the majority of the premises used by Aalto University in Otaniemi, Töölö and Kirkkonummi. The company is responsible for the maintenance of the properties as well as related support functions and property development.
The following subsidiaries owned by the Aalto University Group provide services connected to real estate and facility services: Aalto University Campus & Real Estate Ltd, Arkadi 24 Holding Ltd, Otakeskus Holding Ltd and Otapankki Holding Ltd.

Aalto Holding is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Aalto University Foundation and manages the foundation’s holdings in its subsidiaries and affiliates. The activities of these subsidiaries are typically linked to leveraging and promoting the research-based know-how and expertise of the university staff in production or other business activities. The companies offer training and research services and R&D consultancy, as well as other services.

Aalto Holding’s largest subsidiary is Aalto University Executive Education Ltd., which provides a wide range of high-quality executive education services drawing on the expertise of Aalto University and a network of international partners. In addition to programmes in Finland, Aalto EE offers programmes all over the world. Aalto EE has a subsidiary in Singapore.

Aalto Holding also owns Sannäsin Kartano Oy, that runs a full-service conference hotel in Sannäs Manor in Porvoo. The hotel has 87 double rooms and meeting rooms and training facilities for groups of 10 to 120 people. Sannäs also offers restaurant services in the historical manor house restaurant, ambient sauna facilities and versatile recreational activities.

The Aalto University Foundation owns holdings of more than 20% in its affiliate companies. In addition, the foundation has a number of smaller holdings in other companies, such as the six SHOK companies serving as Strategic Centres for Science, Technology and Innovation.
The company maintains Otahalli, a sports and events centre in Otaniemi. The sports facilities and events there are managed by UniSport, which serves staff and students of Aalto University and the University of Helsinki.

The Aalto University Foundation has a minority holding in this residential building in central Helsinki, where it owns a number of flats for visiting researchers.
Aalto Holding also has a 31% holding in Unigrafia Oy, which provides printing and publishing services, primarily to Aalto University, the University of Helsinki, the University of the Arts Helsinki, and Haaga-Helia University.

The Aalto University Foundation and the University of Helsinki jointly own a real estate company in central Helsinki , known as Töölö Towers, which provides short-term accommodation (up to six months) mainly for foreign visiting researchers. The facilities are managed by Unihome, a unit of the University of Helsinki that manages also other similar accommodation services.
Funidata Oy has been tasked with constructing a national core system for teaching and studies, based on the shared needs of universities.
