Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering invites applications for a

Tenure track position in electronic environment sensing systems

We are looking for an assistant professor in the field of electronic environment sensing hardware development to meet the growing needs for various integrated, energy-efficient monitoring, sensing and tracking systems.

The exponential growth of devices connected to the internet calls for energy-optimized hardware electronics. The connected objects often have sensing capabilities ranging from in-body measurements to tracking and imaging of various objects. The actual sensing happens in various frequency ranges from Hz to THz and distances from nanometers to light years. Regardless of the application, one common nominator for these applications is the capability to sense analog information and process the data both in analog and digital domains. In order to develop and maintain Aalto University’s unique ability to develop complex systems from sensor physics to large-scale data analysis, we are looking for a professor to develop complex sensor hardware electronics and system concepts, and develop this research field as a whole. The selected professor is expected to actively work in broadening our industrial network and establishing Aalto wide contacts in the fields requiring multidisciplinary knowledge on sensing applications. If you expertise is within the broad range of topics mentioned in this call, we encourage you to apply this position.

The position is located at the Department of Electronics and Nanoengineering, in the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering. The department excels in the research of microelectronic circuit design, microwave engineering and components for optics and electronics. The research in the department covers the frequency spectrum from DC to THz and target applications range from sensors and telecommunications to space instruments.

The department’s research groups are dedicated to top leading edge research in microelectronics. The research fields include sensor interface electronics, energy harvesters, RF/MM/analog/DSP ICs for wireless, radars, antennas and related electronics. The department has national and international collaboration with several institutes and companies.

The department has various state-of-art measurement facilities. The main research infrastructure related to this position is Aalto-Electronics-ICT, which offers wide variety of measurement equipment for measurement of complex electronics and wireless devices. The equipment ranges from DSP and DC analyzers to THz network analyzers and anechoic cambers. The department also has cutting-edge design tools, comprehensively including IC technology design kits, EM simulators and DSP design tools.

We are looking for a talented individual who has:
•         A doctorate in electrical engineering or related field
•         Preferred background in one of the following fields; Integrated circuit design, microwave engineering, electronics, sensors
•         Potential to carry out research and attract research funding at the highest level
•         Passion and ability to teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
•         Ability to build high-level international contact network
•         Skills to cooperate with other research groups using jointly operated infrastructure

The requirements for Tenure track professor positions are based on the following dimensions
1. Research work, scientific output
2. Teaching merits and competence
3. Activity in the scientific community, academic leadership and societal interaction
